Audi e-tron
Noel McKeegan from Gizmag talks about Audi’s e-tron at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2009. The exquisite e-tron has a staggering 4,500 newton metres of torque and will be available in limited quantities in 2012.

really?? Could you tell me more about how it drove? Was it much different to a combustion engine in the way it delivered power and handled??

In cars fitted with …
In cars fitted with overdrive units, the the O/D units are usually locked out of operation in lower gears. That is because they can’t handle the huge torque multiplication that occurs in the low gears under hard acceleration. You should really learn first, then post. You won’t make such a goose of yourself that way.

Ur post is nonsense …
Ur post is nonsense. Torque IS multiplied in the driveline. It is multiplied in the gearbox much of the time ( in anything other than direct drive 1:1 or overdrive ) & in the differential ALL of the trime. The rotational mass of the driveline also increases torque at speed. U clearly don’t actually understand the definition or characteristics of torque & horsepower.

Because electric …
Because electric motors have a very large rev range (with maximum torque available at all times) it is possible to select the gear ratio before hand. If you want a car with a high top speed but with good acceleration you just need an electric motor with a large rev range and shortish gear ratios. Whether manufacturers use an “outrunner” or just a simple setup with a couple of gears between the motor and axle i don’t know.

Generally power …
Generally power would be lost on the way to the wheels from an engine. However you normally would gain torque depending on the gearing between the engine and wheels. For example when you put your car in a lower gear you gain torque at the wheels compared to a higher gear as the engine turns more revolutions compared to the wheels.

you mean you have a lack of engineering knowledge. Power and torque figures go DOWN when measured at the wheels rather than the drive shaft. And I dont know who told you to times a cars torque figure by the final drive because that is some messed up logic
