Hello I just bought an Audi A6 2004 and the service light just came on to let me know its due for an Oil change. I am going to do it myself if I can, once I have finished how do I reset the light so it comes on again at the right time frame?

2 different methods seem to be working

1) Switch ignition off.
2) Press and hold down reset button for trip odometer in instrument cluster.
3) Switch ignition on while button is pressed down. "Service OIL" appears in the display of the trip odometer.
4) Release button.
5) Pull setting knob for time in instrument cluster until "Service OIL" indication is reset.
"- – -" appears in display.
6) Press reset button for trip odometer again, to advance to next service event.
7) Release button. "Service INSP" appears in display.
Pull setting knob for time -1- until "Service INSP" indication is reset. "- – -" appears in display.
9) Switch ignition off.

1. Leave the key in the off position.
2. Hold down the right button the guage cluster.
3. While you are still holding the right button turn the key to the on position
4. Quickly (it will say something on the guage cluster) push and hold the left button on the guage while still holding down the button on the right.

And for the VAG-COM comment…I HIGHLY agree with investing in one…very practical and helpful

I’m looking into getting a Audi TT coup quattro 2003-2006 for around 15k. And was wondering what other options are available in this same year, body style and price range? It must have leather seats, and a turbo engine.

This year the clutch went out, NOT UNDER WARRANTY, cost me $2200, last month. This month: two days ago, no power, I had to drive it home, short distance, at 20 mph, at one point I took my foot off the gas and it kept going. Service dept. doesn’t have a clue, yet

Have had problems with excessive oil use & engine problems, windows don’t always work, inside breaking and ripping.Like the looks, but disappointed in the mechanics of this car. Feel like I have had problems with 1 thing or another since we got it.

I have had more problems with this car than any other I have previously owned. The car is loaded with accessories that seem to malfunction. I tend to visit the Audi dealership at least one per month the have repairs done to this car. The engine is underpowered for a car of its price, and the acceleration is comparable to a family sedan. Break dust is another nuisance with this car…be prepared to spend time getting very closely aquainted with your wheels as you will be spending a great deal of time trying to keep them clean.
Overall Review:
As far as looks go, this car is quite appealing. However, I believe that Audi needs to boost the base engine on the car. The last thing anyone wants is a sports car that performs like a 4-door sedan. The instrumentation in this car is very well done. However, overall the quality of the car is lacking. Over the course of 2 years i have had constant problems with this car…ranging from window malfunctions, engine light constantly illuminating, signal lights not working, mirrors vibrating too much, ignition coil malfunctioning, etc. A lot of these aren’t serious, but they are a distraction as you are having to constantly go to the dealer for repairs.

i was looking into buying cars and i found a nice passat and a very good priced Audi, but i heard that maintenance cost more? what maintenances? what are other problems with german cars?

First let me tell you that McMonkey is absolutely right with his answer. In addition to this, please check the ADAC Breakdown Statistic which is the most reliable source – not only for European Cars.

Even if you don’t speak German you will understand the Statistic. As you can see, German Cars are the most reliable Car’s available in today’s market. In the past, Japanese Cars were always on the top but they loose more and more ground for whatever reason ( they rest on their laurels)

The Statistic starts with:
- the small class, followed by
- the lower middle-sized class
- the medium-class
- upper middle-sized class
- Sport Cars
- all-terrain vehicles
- Mini Van’s
- Big Van’s

To understand the charts you have to know that it’s based on breakdown per 1000 Cars. In total they had 2.46 Millions operations

On page 4 you can read, which part was causing the breakdown. On page 5 and following pages you can read about the Car Models and which part was causing the breakdown
